ROB SHANAHAN

Rob Shanahan is a keynote speaker, Photographer to the Rock Stars, professional musician, author, and creator of The ICONS Blueprint™. Drawing on more than 30 years working with many of the world’s biggest music icons, Rob translates lessons from music, performance, and creative collaboration into practical principles of leadership, communication, resilience, team alignment, and high performance.

Raised in Minnesota and based in Los Angeles, Rob’s path has always lived at the intersection of music, rhythm, visual storytelling, and performance. A professional drummer and lifelong musician, he brings an insider’s perspective to the stage and studio—understanding timing, emotion, trust, collaboration, and presence not as abstract concepts, but as lived experience.

As a photographer, Rob has worked behind the scenes and onstage with some of the most recognizable artists in music history, capturing moments of raw energy, authenticity, and humanity. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections around the world.

His published photography books, VOLUME 1 and VOLUME 2, are part of the permanent collection of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library & Archives in Cleveland, Ohio. VOLUME 1 features a foreword by Ringo Starr. VOLUME 2 features a foreword by Sheila E. and an epilogue by Keith Richards.

Through his keynote speaking, Rob brings those same decades of experience to audiences through The ICONS Blueprint™, a practical framework built around the habits and mindsets he has observed in extraordinary performers. His programs help leaders and teams strengthen communication, navigate change, build resilience, create opportunity, and sustain high performance.

At his core, Rob’s work—whether through the lens, behind the drums, or on stage—is about one thing: understanding and communicating the power of human performance at its highest level.

Rob got his first drum kit at age ten and his first camera at thirteen. He has played drums with the Hollywood Stones, the premier Rolling Stones tribute band, since 1994.

His experience as a professional musician gives him a unique understanding of the artists he photographs — the timing, trust, collaboration, and instinct required to capture authentic moments.

Rob lives in Venice, California, where he continues to photograph, perform, write, and speak.
